Educational Resources for Africa (ERA) was founded to provide books and learning materials to communities in rural Africa, with the goal of empowering people of all ages through education.
The project has expanded to include support for innovative, solutions-oriented, community-based organizations.
ERA’s overall mission is to apply and incubate smart global solutions with local impact.
Food for Life
ERA is supporting a project designed to empower women and at the same time solve the problem of malnutrition, which remains pervasive in Uganda.
Women who belong to the cooperative manufacture a food supplement which is part of Food for Life, a product line of nutritious foods. Odii pa Ma, is a remarkable food substitute for highly malnourished children and adults which is fortified with vitamins and other nutrients.
Acholi Literacy Project
Gaining access to the tools of education is a life-changing event. ERA’s mission is to deliver change through education.
When 50 children try to share one book, not much learning happens. This is typically the case in rural Uganda. Many schools are underfunded, overcrowded and understaffed.
Supplying schools with books and other learning materials will dramatically change the learning experience for thousands of children, enabling them to grow upon a solid foundation.
Cross-Cultural Exchange
Bridging rural Africa and America, ERA is a natural facilitator of cross cultural exchanges including visits to Uganda by American volunteers and a penpal exchange program.
From Denver, Colorado where ERA is based, to Northern Uganda, where ERA founders Albert and Marcellina Otii hail from and beyond, ERA’s mission includes stewardship of global citizenry for people of all ages.
